Nothing Mid-Major About VCU Everyone is trying to compare VCU's Final Four run to George Mason’s back in '06, but the two are nothing alike. Mason was sort of a funky team that just caught lightning in a bottle. But there’s nothing flukey about VCU or what they’ve done. Nothing Mid-Major about them either. They have guys that look like they could play for any D-1 school in the country. If anything, it was Kansas that was acting like the Mid-Major, who had never been there before. It was Kansas big man Marcus Morris who was running his mouth to VCU point guard Joey Rodriguez before the game, trying to intimidate and bully the Rams. But Rodriguez and VCU knew the best way to handle a bully is to bust him in the face first and that’s what they did. And by the time Kansas figured out what hit them, they were down 18 and had dug themselves too big a hole to get out of. Sure, they made their run, but exerted way too much energy doing so and were too gassed to finish.
