This weekend one of the oldest professional sports trophies will be on display here in Richmond. On October 18th At Gus’s Bar and Grill on Broad Street, D.C. United will make the next stop in their tour of showing off the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open trophy. The U.S. Open is the longest running soccer competition in the United States, and the world’s third-longest-running, with its origin dating back to 1913-14. It was a miraculous run for United to the 2013 U.S. Open championship which was the clubs 3rd title. For Kickers fans you may remember this year’s edition because they tied D.C. 0-0 in the third round back in May, but lost on penalty kicks 4-2. So go check out one of the oldest trophies in professional sports and stay for the viewing party Gus’s is holding for D.C. United’s match against Sporting KC. Also the Richmond chapter of the American Outlaws, which is team U.S.A.'s official fan group, is hosting a food drive at the event for FeedMore Richmond and the Central Virginia Food Bank, so if you come by drop off some food, remember the holidays are right around the corner.
