Joe Carter’s ’93 Walk-off Blast: Baseball’s answer to a crazy finish, at least most of the time, is the walk-off win. Even though we were an Orioles household my dad and I always watched the World Series. Joe Carter’s walk-off blast in the ’93 fall classic is actually one of my first sports memories.
The Music City Miracle: In what wasn’t really that exciting of a football game, it ended in one of the greatest moments in NFL history. After a back-and-forth battle in the 4th quarter Buffalo got the go-ahead point with 16 seconds left, the Bills did the right thing by trying to squib kick it the ensuing kickoff, but the rest was history.
2006 BCS National Title Game: For once the BCS got it right as both Texas and USC came into this game as the true top two teams in the nation. The Trojans carried a slight advantage coming into the game riding 34-game winning streak, even though many of those wins have been vacated now. Vince Young launched himself into college football immortality for his heroics at the end, too bad it wouldn’t translate well into the NFL.
2010 World Cup USA v. Algeria: The last installment of the World Cup was a lot of fun to watch for USA fans, at least at the group stage. With England tying Algeria earlier in the week, all we need was a point to advance on in the tournament. It was a tense 90 minutes between the USA and Algeria but then after goalie Tim Howard cleared a save up field, Landon Donavon knocked in a rebound off of a Clint Dempsey blocked shot. It was the first-time since 1930 the US won a group and watching the reaction videos were just as fun as watching the actual goal.
2011 Sweet 16 VCU v. Florida State: Being a sports fan and somebody who went to VCU I don’t think I’ve had a better time than the 2011 NCAA Tournament. After the Rams improbable run to the their first-ever Sweet 16, some thought the road would end there. A battle between the two would go into overtime but then with 7 seconds left Bradford “Big Shot” Burgess laid-in an inbound pass and of course we all know what happened after that.
