Just to let you guys know I am a huge MMA fan as I have been watching the sport since college. With the help of the UFC the sport is becoming one of the fastest growing in the world. The organization does have barbaric roots but President Dana White and his team cleaned it up to make it a legitimate sport. A lot of fighters these days are former collegiate wrestlers or world champions in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and they train like any other athlete. To me on a Saturday night there's nothing like sitting down with some of your friends at the local watering hole and watching two guys attempt to beat the tar out of each other.
A show that has helped launch the sport and the UFC is "The Ultimate Fighter". I still remember the first show's finale between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar, it was a fight that put MMA on the map and you need to see it if you have not. The new season of "The Ultimate Fighter" debuts tomorrow night at 9PM on FX. I had the opportunity to catch up with one of the coaches on this year's edition, former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin. We talked about what it means to be a coach on the show, his recovery from neck and back surgery, and the dislike he has for his next opponent and opposing coach Roy Nelson. So listen in and let me know what you think. I will have UFC fighters on the blog regularly so if there is one you would like for me to request and you have a question for let me know as well. Enjoy!
