RICHMOND, VA – The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, continue their week-long unveiling of the team’s 2011 promotional calendar with the announcement of 21 giveaway items for fans during the course of the 2011 season. The first fan giveaway is slated for April 9th, as Budweiser presents the Flying Squirrels’ Fleece Blanket Giveaway to the first 2,500 fans 21 & Older.

The Flying Squirrels’ wildly-popular mascot Nutzy will be featured on a series of giveaways throughout the season; Foam Nutzy Head (June 5th – presented by First Capital Bank – First 2,500 Kids 14 & Under), Nutzy Bank (August 7th – presented by Double Tree Downtown – First 2,500 Kids 14 & Under) and the Nutzy Gnome (August 16th – First 2,500 Fans 15 & Older). In addition, Nutzy’s new Acorn friend will be featured on the Mascot Bobblehead giveaway (August 3rd – presented by HCA Virginia Health System – First 2,000 Kids 14 & Under).

“We always want our giveaways to be unique and enjoyable to our fans,” said Flying Squirrels’ Vice President & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “We have combined some traditional favorites with some brand-new items to form a great collection for 2011.”

Coca-Cola and the Flying Squirrels will team up for the three-part Acrylic Mug Series. The series will include giveaway dates of May 13th (Acrylic Mug #1 – presented by Coca-Cola), June 3rd (Acrylic Mug #2 – presented by Coke Zero) and July 23rd (Acrylic Mug #3 – presented by Diet Coke). All three mugs will be given away to the first 2,500 fans 15 & Older through the ballpark gates.

Other highlights among the Flying Squirrels’ 2011 Giveaway Items include: Pink Camo Cap (May 8th – presented by HCA Virginia Health System – First 2,500 Women 15 & older), Military Cap (June 25th – presented by Budweiser – First 2,500 Fans 21 & Older), the Squirrels Soccer Ball (July 10th – presented by HCA Virginia Health System – First 2,500 Kids 14 & Under) and the Die-Cast Car (June 27th – presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch – First 2,500 Fans 15 & Older).

RICHMOND, VA – The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, continue their week-long unveiling of the team’s 2011 promotional calendar with the announcement of 12 games featuring either a national entertainment act or celebrity guest. Highlighting those nights are the three-part Legends of Wrestling Series and the newly-minted Retro-Celebrity Series.

The Legends of Wrestling Series will include visits to The Diamond by George “The Animal” Steele, Mick Foley and “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase. George “The Animal” Steele will be on hand to kick off the series on Monday, April 11th. The iconic Foley will visit Richmond on Saturday, May 14th, and “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase will join the Flying Squirrels on Friday, August 5th.

New for 2011, the Flying Squirrels will bring fans the Retro-Celebrity Series featuring three pop-culture stars of television past. Anson “Potsie” Williams of Happy Days fame will get the series started on Tuesday, April 26th, while Erik “Ponch” Estrada from the show CHiPS will help the Flying Squirrels celebrate Viente Cinco de Mayo on Wednesday, May 25th. On Wednesday, June 15th, Mr. Belding from the cult-hit Saved by the Bell will close out the series on Teacher Appreciation Night.

In addition to the retro-celebrities, the Flying Squirrels will welcome the stars of the current television hit The Deadliest Catch, Cornelia Marie Crew to The Diamond on Friday, June 24th.

“We received a great reaction to Legends of Wrestling Night last season, and we definitely wanted to build upon that for 2011,” said Flying Squirrels’ Vice President & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “We’re also going to have a great time with the Retro-Celebrity Series, and it wouldn’t be the Squirrels without some of the top entertainment acts in the country.”

Those entertainment acts will include Little Elvis, who will entertain fans on Friday, May 6th. The Amazing Christopher will follow right on his heels, bringing his one-of-a-kind act to The Diamond on Saturday, May 7th. For the first time at the ballpark, Cowboy Monkey will ride into Richmond on Saturday, July 9th, and the easily recognizable Phillie Phanatic will return to The Diamond on Tuesday, August 2nd.

Punctuating the Flying Squirrels lineup of celebrities is former Washington Redskins’ great Brian Mitchell, who will get fans ready for football season on Saturday, August 6th.

RICHMOND, VA – The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, have begun their week-long unveiling of the team’s 2011 promotional calendar with the announcement of 21 fireworks extravaganzas during the 2011 season. The lineup of fireworks displays includes 2011 Opening Night on April 7th, four consecutive spectaculars to celebrate Independence Day (July 4th-7th), and the final two regular season games at The Diamond on August 31st and September 1st.

The Flying Squirrels will debut the American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning Thursday Night Fireworks Series, featuring 10 home dates throughout the 2011 season. Additionally, Verizon Wireless and the Flying Squirrels will present a four-part Wednesday Night Fireworks Series.

“Although we had tremendous success during our inaugural season in Richmond, we want to make sure that everything we do is bigger, better and louder in 2011,” said Flying Squirrels’ Vice President & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “Our fans came out in droves for the 15 fireworks shows we presented in 2010, and we’re thrilled to be able to significantly add to that number this year.”

In addition to the two fireworks series, and shows to commemorate Opening Night 2011 and Independence Day, the Squirrels will also stage another handful of displays during the season. The Richmond Times-Dispatch will present a spectacular on Tuesday, May 24th, and the team will also host a special display for the Silver Squirrels Club on Tuesday, June 14th. On Saturday, August 20th, Fireworks will be presented in honor of the County of Henrico’s 400th Birthday Celebration.

FLYING SQUIRRELS SEEK FAN VOTE TO “NAME THE NUT”

Voting Opens Monday, February 7th to Name New Acorn Mascot

RICHMOND, VA- The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have announced plans for a new Acorn Mascot and are asking fans to vote on the name. Fans can vote online through the poll question at www.squirrelsbaseball.com or through the Flying Squirrels iPhone application. Voting is open online and through the app from Monday, February 7th to Friday, February 11th.

Fans who have already downloaded the “Flying Squirrels App” can vote by opening the app, choosing the “Nutzy needs your help in naming a new friend” article link and submitting their vote. The Application is available to download from the app store for free for fans that do not have it yet.

”Although Nutzy has many friends in the community, we thought he could use a buddy at the ballpark every night too.” said Flying Squirrels Director of Community Relations and Promotions Christina Shisler. “We chose a very fun loving acorn as Nutzy’s sidekick, and are looking forward to incorporating his antics into the festivities of each game.”

The Flying Squirrels’ new Acorn Mascot will be unveiled Thursday, February 24th at 2:00 PM at the Empire Theater at Theater IV on Broad Street. The unveiling is free and open to the public.
